K of C causing noise in lobby during mass

Worthy Brothers! See impotant message from Brenda!

Hi there!

We received an email reminder the importance of the Gathering Space as an extension of the nave of the church and keeping noise down during Mass so people can participate in Mass as fully as they can.  There are people who use the Gathering Space for a variety of reasons to attend and join into the Mass as best as they can. (sick, small children, aged, anxiety, disabled, not feeling worthy to ‘enter’ the nave of the church, etc.) Although the K of C was singled out in the email below, it is a great reminder to all of us! Staff and various other groups use the Gathering Space for other reasons as well. I’m sure we have all been guilty at one time or another of having a quick conversation in that area during Mass.

Lord, grant us the humility to accept correction with a grateful heart. Enable us to see Your voice in the counsel of others and the wisdom to use it so that we may grow closer to You.

Obviously, after Mass is over  (the procession out), regular voices are fine 🙂.

If a group is using the GS, I would suggest about 5 minutes prior to the start of Mass – start looking to reduce noise (carts, conversations, etc.) so that by the time Mass begins, a reverent quiet has also begun. Alternate places to have conversations during Mass are, of course, the hallway and outside.  Outside would be the preference if it’s an animated conversation that would still be heard and a distraction in the hallway. (Unless the doors are closed, of course).

I will mention it at the next staff meeting so that other groups/ ministries/etc. will be reminded and can help remind others.  I will try and remember to occasionally send out gentle reminders to my groups as well.

Will you please put it on the agenda for your next meeting as well as communicate a gentle reminder before the MI Drive this upcoming weekend?

Thank you so much for all you all do!

God bless,
